Whether you are selling your home or just looking to redecorate, here are a few tips to help you stage your home.
Get rid of clutter. Getting rid of unneeded furniture, knick-knacks and other things will make your house feel bigger and more open. Take a look at each room of your home and ask yourself what you need and what you can get rid of. Also clean out closets to show off storage space.
Change the lighting. The goal is to make your home look warm and inviting. One way to achieve this is to change your light bulbs in your lamps and light fixtures to a higher wattage.
Make rooms appear bigger. You can create a sense of space even if a room is a bit small. To make a room appear larger than it is, paint it the same color as an adjacent room to make them feel like one large space. Another trick is to paint the walls the same color as your drapes.
Group accessories in threes. For some reason, odd numbers-especially three- are more visually appealing and pleasing to the eye. To catch interest, vary height and width of your accessories and group them by color, texture, etc.
Add fresh flowers or potted plants. This can add color to neutral rooms and be the perfect touch that’s pretty but not personal.
Upgrade bedrooms with fresh bedding. New linens and pillows in warm, inviting colors make potential home buyers want to relax and allow them to picture themselves using the room.
Make small repairs and finish projects. Fix any cracked tile or cracks in the concrete and replace missing floorboards. These minor problems can stick with potential buyers and cause them to lower their asking price.
Make bathroom tile look new. Scrub your bathroom until it’s sparkling. A little elbow grease can go a long way, but if your tile is faded you can have it painted professionally rather than completely replacing it. Add some extras like rolled towels and candles to give the room a polished, spa-like feel.
