DIY: Fall Garden- Fall is a beautiful time of year, and it can be even better if you know how to prep your garden for the season. Whether you have a vegetable garden or a flower garden, or something in between, incorporating the looks and smells of fall are essential. Here are four tips to help you with your fall garden.

Clear it out

It’s time to clear out your summer plants and flowers that are no longer performing as well as they did in the previous season, to enhance your landscape and make room for the new fall additions. In addition, be sure to pull any of the weeds that may have popped up, so they don’t steal any of the moisture and nutrients from your new plants.

Choose fall flowers

When you are choosing the flowers for your fall garden, remember to choose types that will allow you to incorporate the beautiful colors of fall. The colors of flowers are always more intense in the fall, and luckily, gardens are less demanding at this time of year. Flowers such as marigolds and chrysanthemums, come in a variety of beautiful fall colors and can make all the difference when added to your garden. They will bloom beautifully and be perfect for the fall months.

Maintenance

Even though it’s fall, be sure that you are maintaining your garden as necessary. The mistake that some people make is not watering their garden enough because it doesn’t get as hot as it can in the summer months; however, your plants, flowers and vegetables still need to be cared for accordingly – no matter what month of the year it is.

Disinfect your tools

This is something that most people don’t necessarily consider in between seasons. But, consider this: would you want to risk the chance of infecting new plants with the plants you just removed from your summer garden? After you remove plants and foliage from your “summer garden,” give your tools a good cleaning so as not to infect your new fall favorites.
